Fine Bone China Peony tea cup and saucer
Stunt pits bone china against over 2-tonne Rolls-Royce
It was a test of strength that had shoppers gasping.
Would the four bone china coffee cups (above) be strong enough to take the 2 and a half tonne Rolls-Royce? Or would they be crushed under all that metal and rubber?
While the crowd watched, the Silver Dawn supercar was lowered ever so slowly and skillfully until the wheels sat on the blocks placed on the cups (left).
The Stunt in the heart of the city of Bath was part of the launch of Waterford, Wedgewood’s latest store in Bath, home to the company’s first shop that opened 225 years ago.
The crowd need not have worried about bits of bone china flying about.
The cups passed the test with flying colours, demonstrating the tremendous strength of the fine material from which they are made.
And of course the company was proud to reveal that they are from the Wedgwood Cornucopia range. - IPS pictures
